In many mountainous countries, glaciers are essential water suppliers for agriculture and hydro power generation. Glaciers are also important reservoirs of freshwater. The increasing temperatures in most of the mountainous areas may have dramatic effects on glaciers and water resources. Due to climate change, some glaciers have completely disappeared in the recent decades. Melting glaciers increase the water levels in lakes thereby increasing the probability of natural disasters like floods. Glaciers also provide the bulk of water during hot summers. As a result, many water-dependent economies and industries may face difficulties.
